Ripe cookbook

The entry period for this giveaway is now closed! Please stay tuned for the announcement of the winner over the next couple of days!

We don’t even know where to begin with this colorfully gorgeous cookbook, Ripe.

So we’re just going to give it away first, then tell you about how we have no idea how we first came across the blog 5SecondRule, why we love and admire the blog’s heroine Cheryl Sternman Rule, and how very excited we are about this book from Cheryl and Paulette Phlipot, not only for what is on its pages, but how it’s put together…

Wow, we said a lot already.

Anyway. More later.

To Enter This Giveaway:

  1. Leave a comment on this post with your favorite fruit or vegetable. It can be anything as simple as a red ripe raspberry to something more complex and exotic like, oh, we don’t know, you can think of whatever you like (we realize that “complex and exotic” is such a relative term). It doesn’t actually matter what you say, since this is a random drawing.
  2. Make sure to enter your email address in the box provided so we can contact you
  3. Share this giveaway post with your friends on facebook and twitter! (not required, but we’d love the help!)

You have until Wednesday April 25, 2012 at 5 PM PST to comment. Everyone is welcome to comment to enter, but we can only ship this stuff in the U.S. (So if you’re outside the US and win, you just need to provide us with a US mailing address to send!)

Good luck!

This is a hard one, but I’ll have to go with tomatoes. Any kind as long as they’re not those mealy grocery store types. Fresh heirlooms, tart or sweet cherry, big beefsteaks. Drizzled with dressing, baked on to bread or sprinkled with just a hit of salt and pepper. Summer perfection!

Sarah April 23, 2012 at 11:35 pm

My absolute favorite fruit is a bosch pear because when it is perfectly ripe and I put it in the fridge for a little while to get nice and cold biting into it is like drinking a tall glass of ice cold pear juice. With the first bite your mouth just fills with so much bursting pear flavor! It’s incredible.

Jordan April 24, 2012 at 3:01 am

My favorite fruit is seasonal, just like fruits are seasonal. I’m a harvester at heart, so my favorites involve a little labor and love. Spring has to be rhubarb. Summer has too many good choices, I’m been a berry-lover, but for today I’ll go with a deep-red, succulent, sweet, late summer raspberry. Fall, easy, either a crisp honeycrisp or a gingery gingergold apple! I can’t say I’ve harvested grapefruits myself during the winter, but I very much appreciate those who do.

As a vegan it’s almost impossible to choose one favorite fruit! But I would have to say a crisp, tart organic granny smith apple. It’s so versitle! I can eat it as is, add it to savory meals, baked goods and use it as natural sweetener to any of the fresh juices I make!

Mustard greens. Sometimes they’re hard to find here. Once, after not being able to find any for nearly a year, I got so excited to find them again that I did an endzone touchdown-type celebration in the middle of the produce section and got a lot of weird looks from other shoppers. so worth it, though.

My absolute favorite vegetable has to be the tomato. They’re sweet, they’re savory, and they’re everything in between! They are my wonder fruit/veggie (because I have to admit I’m not sure which it is), especially with a little dab of salt. Really, my favorite thing about tomatoes is that no matter how rainy a day it is, the perfect tomato always tastes like sunshine.
