Salad as a Meal is a pretty awesome cookbook.
And that’s saying a lot because we might have had some issues with it before we opened the cover.
Toss Two of These and Call Me a “Recipe?”
Aside from the obvious, a title with an underlying message of “Eat salad as a meal, Fatso, instead of that chicken fried bacon steak mac and cheeseburger you’re about to shove into your mouth,” it’s a book filled with recipes for salads.
Recipes for salads, people.
Who needs a recipe for a salad?!
To bake a cake, you need a recipe. To cook pancakes, you need a recipe. To make jahp chae, you need a recipe.
These are dishes that require precise measurements, specifically ordered instructions, or just some introduction because they’re foreign to you.
As far as recipes go, salads fall into the same category as sandwiches. Or maybe cold cereal. Heck, I might even go so far as How to Toast Pop-Tarts (the real ones, not reverse-engineering the store-bought ones and baking them from scratch like so many of you awesome TasteSpotters have been doing).
Salad as a Meal, Le Creuset as a Stockpot
But then we found ourselves Post-it-ing recipe after recipe as we flipped through the pages of the book (yes, those neon green things in the photo of the cookbook above are our Post-its) and finally realized that there is a lot more to “salad” than just “wash some lettuce then toss together in a bowl with some dressing and season to taste with salt and pepper (freshly cracked if you’re fancy like that).” There’s art in the presentation, science in the ratios in the dressings and inspiration from combinations of ingredients that you wouldn’t have thought of otherwise.
There are even salads that require cooking, which is why we’re giving this cookbook away along with this Le Creuset stockpot. Isn’t the kiwi color adorbs? That’s why we had to buy it to give away to someone!
The stockpot will be handy for blanching vegetables, kind of like we did with the Asparagus, Green Beans and Peas Salad. Obviously, you’re going to have a LOT of uses for a 6-quart covered stockpot.
How to Enter this Giveaway
Pay attention. There is one thing you must do. It’s complicated. So read carefully.
1. Leave a comment on TasteSpotting’s facebook wall with your favorite kind of salad! (Obviously, you have to LIKE us to leave a comment, so do that first!)
It doesn’t matter what you say. It only matters that you say something, but honestly, if you don’t eat salads, can you just try to make something up? It’s not like we’re going to verify with your Mom that Buffalo Chicken Blue Cheese Salad is actually your favorite.
Oh, but it might be ours…
Now go! You have two days. Like, comment, and stay tuned for tomorrow’s Birthday Gift-away!
(You’re also welcome to leave a comment here on this blog post, but MAKE SURE to go to facebook for your “offficial entry!”)

Awesome giveaway! Happy birthday to Sarah!
Salads are one of my favorite foods, so it’s really hard to decide. Greek and Cobb salads are two of my favorites, with either shrimp or salmon.
Fresh greens from the garden, a variety of berries, and a simple balsamic vinaigrette. Summer perfection!
Awesome giveaway! I just wanted to know if I can also participate, cause I’m from Brazil. But I’m leaving my comment on facebook anyway!
A salad is getting the biggest and most colorful bowl in the pantry and overfilling it with greens, carrots, and cucumbers. Smoother that in salsa, smooshed avocado, nooch, and black beans. Then lick the bowl clean
Oh, hey! I totally didn’t know you guys had FB. You have one more fan in me! ^_^
I love this strawberry spinach salad with a lemon poppy seed dressing (you make it with a fresh squeezed lemon, poppy seeds, sugar, & olive oil! It’s AMAZING!!! I promise. =)
Oh, if only I did the facebook thing. The stockpot is truly adorable; love that green color. The salad book is on my wish list all because of that recipe you posted with the green veggie salad. Until I try that one, I’ll have to keep claiming greek salad as my favorite. Hope you have a great birthday and are totally spoiled!

Picking one salad was a toughie! I left my FB comment (and found some yummy ideas), but came back here to say thanks for such a fun giveaway!
I love to make a simple salad with lettuce, oranges, roasted beets, feta, and toasted pecans. I usually put a balsamic-olive oil-honey dressing on top. Yum!
Isn’t the author of the book a friend of the Barefoot Contessa (well isn’t everyone?) Anyway she looks familiar. BTW – This is an awesome giveaway. If I don’t win, I’ll definitely be checking that book out at my local library – I’m cheap what can I say..I don’t want to be stuck with a cookbook that I’m only going to use once.
