KitchenAid® Stand Mixer Giveaway and the Ultimate “In the Kitchen Mix”

The giveaway entry period is officially closed. Thanks so much for playing along, and check back shortly to find out who’s getting a brand new KitchenAid stand mixer!

Over the last few months, we’ve learned a lot about the KitchenAid® Stand Mixer.

Rather, we’ve learned that the KitchenAid® stand mixer can do a lot.

With all the different attachments, what we once pulled down from its pedestal only occasionally to bake a cake or knead dough, has now become a daily multi-tasker in the kitchen that can replace other gadgets and appliances. In addition to the usual beating, kneading and whipping (and we’re not talking about tough love here), we’ve squozen fresh juice, ground beef, sliced and diced vegetables, churned ice cream and in a few days, we’re going to try our hand at rolling out homemade pasta.

In essence, there isn’t much that the KitchenAid stand mixer can’t do.

Heck, you can even throw old cassette tapes into the shiny silver mixing bowl (don’t pretend like you don’t still have two L.A. Gear shoeboxes full of cassette tapes in your closet), turn on the mixer and listen to the perfectly programmed mix of your favorite love songs from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s!

Ok, that’s not true, but if it actually did that — it is a “mixer,” after all — we kind of wouldn’t be surprised.

We really do think the KitchenAid Stand Mixer is all kinds of everyday awesome, so we want you to have the bright and shiny white mixer we have in our headquarters to give away!

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment on this post with a song that we should add to our Ultimate “In the Kitchen” Mix.

You have about a week to enter, and only enter once, please! If you have multiple song recommendations, just put them all in one comment :)

Ready to enter? We’ll go first:

George Michael’s Father Figure.

Good luck!

Casa by Natalia y la forquetina. It’s in Spanish and talks about making dessert… Roughly translated the song goes like this “I’m gonna make dessert.. I’ll put some happiness apples in it and when u eat one u’ll be happy all day and u’ll tell me u can’t live without me” it’s a bakers happy song!

Apache (Jump On It) – Sugar Hill Gang

GJ Zambrano October 21, 2010 at 11:11 am

The butt rock band Warrant had a tune named Cherry Pie. Horrible tune but that blender would come in handy when making pie, i guess. At least the crust.

Melissa McGregor October 21, 2010 at 11:11 am

Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing” is probably the best vote I can cast. It has an uncanny ability to make you wanna dance and belt it out while hoping for the best outcome in the kitchen!

Sandra Ann Miller October 21, 2010 at 11:11 am

Oh, there are just so many (anything by Nouvelle Vague and The Pretenders “Isle of View” CD is extraordinary), but let’s be bold and pick one: INXS “Shine Like It Does”. Especially for those occasions when you’ve misplaced that favorite baking accoutrement (“‘Cause if you’re lookin’, you will fiiiiiiiind it.”) xo

serena @bigapplenosh October 21, 2010 at 11:12 am

Melanie fletcher October 21, 2010 at 11:25 am

I work for an indepedent radio station and we just got Kyle Andrew’s amazing ep. The song “you always make me smile” has been delightfully stuck in my head for weeks now. Its sweet and infectious just like creating in the kitchen. Let’s give up and coming artists a nod while inspiring cooks, new and old!

Marisa October 21, 2010 at 11:26 am

I love to bop around in the kitchen, so definitely “Penny Lane” by The Beatles!

Antonia October 21, 2010 at 11:28 am

Whenever I used my mom’s I’d play Devo’s “Whip It”

Whip it good, Kitchen Aid…whip it good!

DRC October 21, 2010 at 11:29 am

“Mother, We Just Can’t Get Enough” by the New Radicals. Good beat and it encourages singing off key while you mix up a batch of cookies.

Neal October 21, 2010 at 11:30 am

I like to listen to some fun 80s when I’m cooking. A good Go-Gos song or a one hit wonder like Bow Wow Wow gets me dancing, singing and having fun in the kitchen.

We got the Beat -The Go-Gos
I Want Candy -Bow Wow Wow

Ashley October 21, 2010 at 11:32 am

Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. Motivation with every note!

Hank Williams’ “Jambalaya (On the Bayou)” when you need energy or are cooking something spicy and fun.

Nina Simone’s “Feelin’ Good” when you are simmering and enjoying a big glass of red wine.

My kids vote for/fight over Beyonce’s Single Ladies and Queen’s We Will Rock You.

May October 21, 2010 at 11:35 am

Caramel – Suzanne Vega. That entire album (Nine Objects of Desire) is great for a day in the kitchen.

Dana (aka The Broke-Ass Bride) October 21, 2010 at 11:35 am

Definitely “Let Me Clear My Throat” by DJ Kool. Definitely.

Mark C. October 21, 2010 at 11:36 am

Fruit Bats “Being On Our Own”– our dog’s favorite song and the upbeat piano always gets us in the mood for some cooking!

Sarah October 21, 2010 at 11:36 am

There is nothing better than being in my kitchen making food for those that I love (with a glass of wine!). And my soundtracks all seem to have one common denominator: Astrud Gilberto. Her saucy voice and sensual sounds are perfect fodder for creativity! One can’t-live-without-tune: Agua de Beber. Give it a listen, and try to tell me you don’t feel like the best chef out there!

Sue October 21, 2010 at 11:39 am

I Hear the Bells ~ Mike Doughty

Erik Deckers October 21, 2010 at 11:42 am

I’m going to go totally Celtic on you, and give you my top four favorites. Put these on and you’ll want to stay in the kitchen until they’re done.

1. The Salt Lick – Gaelic Storm
2. Geese in the Bog/Mist Covered Mountain/Queen of the Fair – Steve Holloway
3. The Devil Went Down to Doolin – Gaelic Storm
4. Sleepy Maggie – Ashley MacIsaac

J George October 21, 2010 at 11:43 am

‘Your Mama Don’t Dance’ by Loggins & Messina (but this daddy does rock & roll!)

Bridget October 21, 2010 at 11:46 am

We like Carole King’s Tapestry for lazy weekend breakfast making and Billy Joel’s The Stranger, a used record we found for $1, for dancing around while making dinner. Only the Good Die Young!

dustin cook October 21, 2010 at 11:48 am

I think the song you should choose is “ain’t that a kick in the head” or “sway” by Dean Martin

Frances October 21, 2010 at 11:51 am

“Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off”-The Gershwins particularly, the Ella Fitzgerald/Louie Armstrong version is SO classic.

The Pioneer Cookerella October 21, 2010 at 11:53 am

Ashley October 21, 2010 at 11:55 am

Heather J October 21, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I think the obvious choice is “Eat It” by Weird Al Yankovic :)

Cathleen October 21, 2010 at 12:44 pm

It really depends on what/when I’m cooking but on my favorite days to cook (gloomy– where I make a big pot of soup) there’s nothing better than

Brad Mehldau – When it Rains

Nicole October 21, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Dog Days Are Over- Florence and the Machine

“Hot Fun in the Summertime” by Sly and the Family Stone…of course, you have to be baking during a hot spell to listen to this one! ;-)

Janis October 21, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Morrissey singing Moon River.

Lauren C. October 21, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Rev. Al Green and Ray Lamontagne are my two go-to guys for cooking in the kitchen. The best meal I ever made, though, I had Stevie Wonder’s “My Cherie Amour” playing on repeat.

Monica October 21, 2010 at 12:50 pm

I love listening to music while cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, making the bed… you get the idea. The music I choose varies by the day, my mood, the activity so it’s hard to come up with just a few songs but I’ll try.

I would have to say anything “loungey” like some swinging Dean Martin or Louis Prima.

“Closest to the Bone” is a great song as well as “That’s Amore”.

stephanieZ October 21, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Sweet Caroline

Maria A. October 21, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Amy October 21, 2010 at 12:54 pm

The L.A. Gear shoeboxes full of cassettes is a great 80s reference! The best cooking album is Trio da Paz’s Black Odysseus. It’s the Brazilian group’s take on the classic soundtrack with a mix of hot and cool rhythms. Always pulls you into that magical Carnaval world!

Joanne Baldwin October 21, 2010 at 12:54 pm

Lykke Li – Dance Dance Dance. So uplifting and cheerful!

Noelle October 21, 2010 at 12:55 pm

Florence + the Machine – Dog Days is my latest obsession. I have 3 mixes of it, I think.

Jimmy October 21, 2010 at 12:55 pm

Don McLean – American Pie

Michelle October 21, 2010 at 12:55 pm

American Pie by Don McClean

Although, this has nothing to do with the title, I’ve found that singing this song is great for making cookies. After you put the cookies in the oven, you can start on the dishes and sing American Pie. Eight and a half minutes later, your cookies come out golden brown and gooey and the dishes were way more fun than they would have been otherwise.

Phil October 21, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Chocolate City (Love Song) by Deep Dish
It’s got the tempo to keep you efficient, while it builds you up to the flavour explosion you’re looking forward to.

okay, so enough of the question titles ;)

Well, it’s from the 60’s, but “Sugar, Sugar” (The Archies) is one of my favorite in-the-kitchen songs. Also, from the cast recording of the The Chorus Line, “Dance Ten, Looks Three” and “Nothing.” Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome.” Neil Diamond’s “Grunchy Granola Suite.” And Harry Nillson’s “Coconut.”

Jimminy, there are a lot of songs I could add to this…

Hate to admit it, but I really like “oldies”. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, or recent covers by
Michael Buble or Rod Stewart. They remind of being in the kitchen with my mother and listining to her sing as she cooked.

Sherri October 22, 2010 at 7:03 am

I like to cook to Julian Bream. For those that are wondering who the heck that is, he is an English classical guitarist and lutist. Try cooking to Breams’ (Vivaldi) Concerto in G and you will open up a whole new experience for yourself. If classical isn’t your thing, give opera a try. Seriously. Music can elevate your cooking to a whole new level, as could this Kitchen Aid mixer.

Ginny Crabb October 22, 2010 at 7:17 am

Anything by Ace of Base! Though their album was the first I bought in CD format, I bought “The Sign” as a single on cassette because I just couldn’t wait until I had the money for the whole album. I can still sing every nonsensical, half-Swedish lyric on that album. (Which is perfect when you’re cooking or baking because you need to read the cookbook WHILE singing along.)

Cooking and dancing go together like [Maldon’s Sea] salt and [freshly cracked] pepper. Therefore, the best kitchen song of all time has got to be Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” It’ll get your basil chiffonaded and your hips grooving in no time. Be careful to use a wooden spoon as opposed to a chef’s knife when holding your “microphone” up to your lips as you serenade your sauteeing mushrooms.

fel October 22, 2010 at 3:42 pm

My two most recent music obsessions would be great in the kitchen since they both have a great beat!

When I’m in the kitchen I like something that’s upbeat and I can sing along with. Heather October 24, 2010 at 6:48 pm

There’s something about the old-timey-quality of The Ink Spots’ “Java Jive” that corresponds exactly to the peaceful yet energetic mindset I have when I’m fixing up a batter for coffee cake, gooey butter cake, or whatever treat I want to pair with a good cup of coffee. The song makes me think of my grandmother’s era when you’d invite a gal pal over for midday coffee and offer up some yummy baked goods to go along with that cup of joe.

I try to listen to music while I’m cooking but I get so into it that food ends up everywhere! LOL Perhaps it’s my choice in music?

Here’s a song that’s tame enough so that food won’t go flying everywhere:
Got to Give It Up by Marvin Gaye
(I can sway from side to side in front of the stove mixing it up and then do a complete turn while two stepping back to the cutting boark.)

There’s a Korean drama series (okay, there are a lot of Korean drama series) about cooking, chefs, bakers, etc., etc., and I love listening to their soundtracks when I’m cooking. Just like the dramas themselves, the music is sometimes mellow and romantic, but other times super upbeat and badass — so good!
