It’s a good thing we can’t win our own recipe contest because if we could, we would — with this Italian Sausage Egg and Cheese Morning Muffin. How could we not win? Just look at that sausage. Take it in. Take it all in. The muffin in all its deliciously spicy- salty- soft- and oozy-in-the-morning glory…
*fans herself* Is it getting a little hot in here?
It is. And it’s not from the sausage in the morning. It’s the $1,500 total cash that is up for grabs in the Johnsonville Italian Sausage Recipe Contest that we’re hosting here on TasteSpotting. That’s right.
Fif.
Teen.
Hundred.
It’s easy to enter the contest. Start with any familiar recipe, and instead of using the regular old ground beef or chicken, just use any Sweet, Mild or Hot Italian Johnsonville Sausage. Click over to the the Contest page for more information on how to enter, or if you already have your recipe ready, click over to the Contest Entry Form.
Now get started on your winning sausage recipe! We’ll just be enjoying our *ahem* hot sausage in the TasteSpotting Kitchen.
Italian Sausage Morning Muffin
based entirely on that English muffin breakfast sandwich from you-know-where
Makes 1 muffin, but can be doubled. Or tripled. Or you can get crazy and even quadruple it.
Ingredients
1 Johnsonville Italian Sausage link (mild, sweet or spicy)
1 English muffin, split and toasted
1 slice of mozzarella cheese
1 egg, fried
Directions
First, stop smirking at the fact that we are writing out a recipe for a sandwich.
Remove casing from sausage (easier to do if the sausage is cold, straight from the refrigerator). Shape the link into a patty, then cook over medium heat.
Place the cheese, fried egg, and sausage between halves of toasted English muffin.
Even though we ate ours at our own TasteSpotting Kitchen counter, we wrapped the muffin in parchment paper just for a little McFun.

This makes a wonderful breakfast. The sausage looks so delicious!
Mmmm….it’s 6:39am….if only I had some sausage!
Ralph’s market has the bulk Italian sausage. It is easier and quicker than removing the casing.
Sounds like a yummy recipe!
