Where have you been for the last three weeks?!
If you’ve been anywhere else but here, you’ve been missing out on the Mushroom Masters, a month-long Tournament of Taste during which we feature weekly head-to-head-to-head culinary competitions with food bloggers from Australia, Canada and the United States. Each week during September, different bloggers submit original recipes and photos that use that week’s selected mushroom variety. So far, we’ve seen perfect portabella mushrooms, cute-as-a button mushrooms and th ever-so-holy shiitake mushrooms.
In this fourth and final round of the Mushroom Masters, the bloggers get to choose their own variety in a Wildcard Week. Kath of Kath Eats Real Food represents the US with an autumnal recipe for Rosemary, Brie and Hazelnut Stuffed Mushrooms. Kevin from Closet Cooking is representing Canada with his Hot Cheesy Mushroom Dip and Peter from Souvlaki for the Soul has entered a recipe for a meaty Mushroom Haloumi Burger for Australia.
You can find the full recipe from each blogger on their respective country’s sites: Australian Mushroom Growers Association, Mushrooms Canada and the Mushroom Council — but make sure to scroll down this post to check out the gorgeous photos and vote for your favorite recipe here on Tastespotting.
But before we get to this last week’s competition, let’s recap the standings from previous weeks:
Week 1 Portabella Playoff Winner: Canada – Oh Oh She Glows Stuffed Portabella Pizza
Week 2 Button Battle Winner: Australia – Kitchen Wench’s Lasagna with Slow Roasted Mushrooms
Week 3 Shiitake Showdown Winner: Australia – Fig & Cherry’s Shiitake Mushroom Okonomiyaki
Week 4 Wildcard Winner: Who will it be? Australia is already up 2 and Canada has 1 win. Will this final round be the one in which the US finally takes a win?

How can you lose with three great looking recipes like this? As an Aussie however there is only one way to vote – go Peter!
The mushroom burger is the clear winner for me – what a great combination!! Nice work Peter.
They all look good, but I would have to go for the dip! It’s very creative, while the others are delicious classic mushroom dishes. I’m always looking for new ways to enjoy one of my favorite foods.
Can we, um, please keep this contest going? I can’t get enough!
Stuffed mushrooms are really doing it for moi, but then again, I am having a rosemary craving.
I love Kaths little mushrooms from the USA. But all three do look delicious.
Let’s Go Canada, Let’s Go!!!
Much though we love all three of these bloggers and their recipes, Kath has provided a clear winner here. Keep it up Kath- you are a champion of champignons! Go USA!
How can something that combines grilled portabellos, Haloumi cheese, onions and peppers NOT be amazing! This Yankee is voting for the Aussie.
I VOTED!
Wow, I love all three, so it is tough choice to make. I loved the dip as I made it last night, and it tasted great, other two I have to make it and see. Three-way tie sounds good.
Even though I would love to vote for US I think the most creative dish is the Portabella Grilled Haloumi Burger from Australia.
They all look great, but the Rosemary, Brie and Hazelnut Stuffed Mushrooms wins me over.
By the way, any chance I can join the competition (maybe next month), I got a nice little food blog at amazingsandwiches.com… ?
