Let’s just ignore everything we’ve ever said in the past about how we feel about bananas for a day, ok?
Because really, it all goes out the window anyway when we’re talking about bananas as a very good excuse for eating ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and of course, a cherry (or two) on top — banana splits!
National Banana Split Day is Thursday, August 25, and to celebrate, we’re helping DOLE® Bananas host a No-guilt Banana Split Party from 3-4 PM (eastern time; a little earlier for those of us on the west coast, 12-1 PM).
You’re so totally invited.
Dole is encouraging you to invent your own healthier banana split creation under 350 calories and participate in Thursday’s Twitter Party by Tweeting @DOLEBananas using the hashtag #BananaSplit with your signature recipes.
Additionally, healthy banana split recipes, photos and blog posts submitted to Tastespotting could be featured during 5-hour block dedicated solely to banana splits kicking off when the twitter party starts and going until 8 PM eastern (12 – 5 PM pacific).
Recipes must use a DOLE Banana and weigh in under 350 calories, and of course have an eye-catching, mouth-watering photo!

Take a peek at some of the Banana Splits we already have on TasteSpotting, or watch out for two of Dole’s own creations: Grilled Bananas and the Red, White and Blue Banana Split, using fresh fruit and sorbet in place of high-fat ice cream and syrup. @DOLEBananas will Tweet out the recipes for the two surprisingly decadent desserts, which come in at 226 and 270 calories, respectively, Thursday to kick off the National Banana Split Day Twitter party.
