Thanks all, for voting! This Button Battle is (in the words of our favorite culinary competition chairman) “Oh-Vah!” Congrats to Ellie the Kitchen Wench from Australia for the winning Lasagna with Slow Roasted Mushrooms and Goat Cheese!
Remember that game we played when we were really little, altogether, sitting in a circle…
“Button, button, who has the button?!”
That’s all we could say in our heads over and over as we put together button mushroom recipes for week two of the Mushroom Masters: A Tournament of Taste.
Just a quick reminder: each week during the month of September we are featuring a head-to-head-to-head battle with food bloggers from Australia, Canada and the United States. Each blogger submits an original recipe and photos that use that week’s selected mushroom variety. Last week was the Portabella Playoffs (click over to see which country won!), and this week we have a fantastic Button Battle lined up!
We have a tough competition with Ellie from Kitchen Wench representing Australia, Jeanette at Everybody Likes Sandwiches from Canada, and Maggie from Pithy and Cleaver representing the United States.
Take a look at each recipe (the three recipes are presented in alphabetical order by country), gaze at the gorgeous photos, and vote for the recipe you like best!
You can find the full recipe from each blogger on their respective country’s sites: Ellie’s Lasagne with Slow Roasted Mushrooms and Goat Cheese on the Australian Mushroom Growers Association, Jeanette’s Mushroom Empanadas on Mushrooms Canada and Maggie’s Buffalo-Style Blue Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms on the Mushroom Council site.

Mushrooms with flaky pastry! Enuf said!!!
That was a tough decision. They all look so wonderful.
Definitely the lasagne! Rich and indulgent with a meaty texture while still being vegetarian – genius!
maggies’ was soooo outstanding – far and above the rest!
I spelled my address wrong – soooo maggie’s recipe won – no contest! s
I would go the lasagne on creativity and presentation, although I would like a few empanadas with a cold beer or two. The blue cheese stuffed ‘shrooms look like Van Gogh’s missing ear.
I like almost anything in pastry but these little mushroom mouthfuls look devine!
Oh they all look good, one thing I love about mushrooms is my husband is quite happy to not have meat in place of a good meaty mushroom dish, so they are great for a change, I’m going to try the lasagne first I think.
Ahhhh, the lasagna looks completely to die for!!! The others sound great too but the lasagna steals the show, for me!! :)
lasagna for me please!
They all look great, but I’m a sucker for empanadas.
I made the empanadas yesterday! Delicious! The pastry was flaky and the filling was soooo good (you can just eat the filling on its own too).
How do you enter? I have a master mushroom recipe at http://montrealfoodblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/nicks-stuffed-mushrooms.html
