Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day and Everything Pie Cookbooks {giveaway} – Back to School with Chemistry

After you enter this giveaway, make sure you enter the other open giveaways!

The entry period for this giveaway is now closed, but check out this section for open Giveaways!

Today in TasteSpotting School, we’re doing a little bit of Science, specifically, Chemistry, which was our second worst subject in school and probably the deciding factor in our college major selection, choosing the furthest thing from science that could still get us into medical school (economics, and no, we never ended up goiong to medical school.) …

We think of baking as science. It requires precise measurement. It requires specific environmental and atmospheric situations. It requires patience and perfection and those are things that we just don’t have (at least not in the kitchen, right?) And when you add yeast to the equation for things like bread? We try not to even think about that.

Someday we will conquer this fear that is probably just in our heads, but until then, we’re giving away this set of baking cookbooks: the world-reknown Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day by Jeff Hertzberg, MD (see?! a doctor! I told you it was science!) and Zoe Francois, and The Everything Pie Cookbook which is absolutely the perfect thing to have on hand with all this seasonal and holiday baking coming up.

How to Enter this Cookbook Giveaway (one person gets both books!)

  1. Leave a comment with your favorite kind of PIE! All-American Apple Pie? Silky Smooth Chocolate Pudding Pie? Something savory like a Chicken Pot Pie?! (Yes there are savory recipes in the Pie Cookbook, too.) Don’t worry if you don’t eat pie (like me), just make something up. It doesn’t matter what you say, as this is a random drawing, but it does matter that you do comment with something.
  2. Make sure to enter your email address in the box provided so we can contact you
  3. Share this giveaway post with your friends on facebook and twitter! (not required, but we’d love the help!)

You have until Friday September 14, 2012 at 5 PM PST to comment. Everyone is welcome to comment to enter, but we can only ship this stuff in the U.S. (So if you’re outside the US and win, you just need to provide us with a US mailing address to send!)

Good luck!

(And by the way, in case anyone is wondering, even though I am not a pie person, I do like a Fresh Strawberry Pie every once in a while.)

I love pie. It’s probably my favourite dessert! I especially like key lime pie and bumbleberry and chocolate silk (I have a lot of well-loved pies).

Asked me to choose a favorite pie above others is probably one of the most ridiculous challenges I’ve ever accepted! But I guess I’d have to go with…a perfect piece of apple pie…warm and ala mode of course!

My favourite pie is my Gramma’s homemade southern chocolate pie. I loved it so much that I used to ask for it instead of birthday cake. At our last big family Thanksgiving with both of my Grandparents with us, my mom accidentally dropped the chocolate pie face-down on the floor right out of the oven. To this day, we don’t let her touch that pie until everyone has had a piece.
